The Green Healers Apprentice
e-Learning Program

The Green Healers Apprentice is aimed at you if you believe in being responsible for your own well being, and you want to improve your health and vitality by becoming your own herbalist. Its comparatively affordable modular format allows you to focus on those body systems that matter most to you.

The Green Healers Apprentice is also ideal for therapists and health practitioners using other modalities and forms of alternative medicine who want to use herbal medicine to be of better service to their clients.

The material work towards health as defined by the World Health Organization. It being: "More than the absence of illness. It is the active state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being."

To this end the underlying belief regarding health and healing in the Green Healers Apprentice program is a non-denominational Christian belief that says God is the Ultimate Healer. What this entails is perhaps best summarized by John Edmiston in an article entitled Healing, Health and Medicine.

The Practice of Green Healing

The Practice of Green Healing learning programs are for participants who have completed Principles of Herbal Medicine and who want to learn how to apply the practice of green healing to the different body systems and their ailments.

Each module deals with an individual body system and is a stand alone learning program. This allows you do only those modules that interest you. The modules all follow the same basic outline:

• An overview of the anatomy and physiology of the system.
• Therapeutic actions indicated for the system.
• Disease prevention and health maintenance in the system.
• Disorders of the system and their treatment.
• Materia medica for the system.

The following modules will be available from the second half of 2009:

• Module 1 - The Immune System
• Module 2 - The Digestive System
• Module 3 - The Circulatory System
• Module 4 - The Respiratory System

Modules 5 - 12 will be available in 2010.

• Module 5 - The Nervous System
• Module 6 - The Urinary System
• Module 7 - The Reproductive System
• Module 8 – The Musculoskeletal System
• Module 9 – The Skin
• Module 10 – The Endocrine System
• Module 11 – Green Healing and the Elderly
• Module 12 – Green Healing and Children

Time Frames

The duration of the modules are between 8 and 12 weeks. You will need to devote an average of about 3 hours per week to your learning.

It is recommended that you spend an additional 1 to 2 hours per week on exploring other resources and on developing your green healing skills and knowledge.

Assignments

Each topic has one or more short assignments. Most involve designing green healing treatment protocols. You also need to hand in a case study at the end of the program.

Assessments

After you have completed each topic you can do a short online test (quiz). The assessments are automatically marked online. You are also assessed on your assignments and your case study. If you want to obtain the certificate, doing the tests and assignments is compulsory and you need an average of 75%.

Certification

On successful completion of a module a certificate of completion from the SA Herb Academy is given.

Prerequisites

Principles of Herbal Medicine (modules 1 to 3) is a pre-requisite.

Facilitation Fees

The participation fee in South African Rand (ZAR) is R497 per individual module.
